Wells began doing business as Wells Dodge Chrysler in October of 2004. For 73 years prior to that we had been known as Wells Motor Company (still the official corporate name).

In this day of 15 second TV commercials and 30 second radio spots it became more and more cumbersome to waste precious seconds saying “Wells Motor Company, your Dodge Chrysler Dealer” versus being able to say just “Wells Dodge Chrysler” that explains who and what we are. Prominent Avon Park businessman, J. Lawler Wells, founded Wells Motor Co. in 1931. Wells opened a gas station at the corner of Main St. and Forest Ave. in 1928, later adding refrigerators and radios. In 1931, Wells Motor Co. was established as a Dodge and Plymouth dealership. J. Lawler Wells unfortunately met a sudden death in 1941 when |

Wells Motor Co. continued in spite of the untimely death of J. Lawler. Brother, E. Ray Wells, who had been working at the dealership since 1931, took the reigns as owner running this very successful business until his death in 1993. Two of Ray’s sons, Kenneth and Stanley and two of his grandchildren Scooter and Sarah Jane now run the business. |
